C.C.Lemon pawns
Caught a cold? Here’s your cure.
Yes, C.C.Lemon is good for you—or at least that’s what Suntory is trying to make you believe. According to Suntory—the company that produces C.C.Lemon—every 500 ml bottle of C.C.Lemon contains about 70 lemon’s worth of Vitamin C. That’s 1,430 mg worth of Vitamin C, which is higher than the daily Recommended Dietary Allowance of 90 in males and 74 in females age 19 and older.
So yes, it’s good for you. But this isn’t regular lemonade like you’d find at Auntie Anne’s. C.C.Lemon is carbonated, bottled and sold solely in Japan (or so I think). And for those who’re weight-conscious, there’s C.C.Lemon Zero that feeds you absolutely no calories.
But C.C.Lemon isn’t just good for you health, it’s also amazing for your taste bud. Upon hearing the name C.C.Lemon from my friend who had been to Japan, I pictured super sour lemonade made for sadistic explorers, so they can brag to others that they’ve tried the awfully sour Japanese drink—and survived.
When in fact, it’s not sour at all. C.C.Lemon is quite sweet, with a slight carbonated taste. And if there’s anything about C.C.Lemon that’s bad for your health, it’d be the carbonation and the sugar substitutes they put in the Zero version.
Conclusion: try it. It’s not the strangest Japanese invention, but it sure is delicious.

Be careful! CC Lemon is very sugary! So while it has a lot of vitamin C in it, it's not exactly healthy. If you want to go the healthy route, keep an eye out for CC Lemon Zero, which has the same amount of vitamin C with no sugar!
And where are you getting that the sugar substitutes would be worse for you than the really high sugar content of the normal?
Because it's not natural. Anything unnatural is probably not so good for your health. I've always been told that all these sugar substitutes stuff can cause cancer, but I drink them anyway. Eh, it's not like we're not gonna die one day
I'm not saying that it's untrue, but there are tons and tons of studies that disprove the fact that artificial sweeteners cause cancer. There are, of course, some studies that show that they have the potential of upping your appetite/calorie intake because your body is not receiving the same signals as it would from normal sugar, but this is definitely not a bigger problem than having a sugar intake that is too high in the first place.
I wouldn't write something with artificial sweeteners off as being "worse" just because it has something artificial in it.
I personally would drink the Zero kind, but since it isn't in the regular vending machine, it isn't so easy. You can talk about all the health disadvantages all you want, but like many healthier stuff, they aren't readily available.
That's a good point. I have been looking to find a machine that sells the Zero kind but they are not as popular as the ones that just sell the regular. It makes it harder to be healthy when you really just need your C.C. Lemon fix and all they have is regular!
Why don’t you try Mitsuya Cyder the lemon kind? They sell it at KGU’s Family Mart and it tastes almost the same as C.C.Lemon. But with zero sugar.
I`ll look into that I did not want to stray from my lovely C.C. Lemon but I guess I should try new drinks as well.

Sam, C.C. Lemon is actually the very first drink that I got out of a vending machine here! I thought it was really good too and not too sour…but now that I know that is because of the sugar so I am a little less impressed (but only a little haha). It was very good and the sugar will just have to be a biproduct until I can find the zero sugar kind because I don't want to catch your cold!
You better thank me for introducing you to C.C.Lemon and now you're addicted, aren't you? I've drank the Zero kind and it isn't so bad, thought not as good as the original. I'd say forget the sugar level and go for it. Who cares if it gives you diabetes.
Haha I wrote the same thing on my blog! Is that where you got the Diabetes reference?? Anyway, I do thank you for introducing me to my new favorite drink. It was because of this website that I found my new favorite vending item in Japan! I owe so much to Lokatas!!
Haha Daniel, now I feel like commenting on your blog, which I will sure do soon. And no, I didn't get the diabetes reference from you blog—we're just so like-minded, which is a great thing. And you know what, I might steal some details about the bridge and the Himeji castle from your blog, too ;D
Haha well I don't know if you would be stealing the ideas because we were both there so you had similar experiences haha. I'm glad you enjoy my blog too because I really like reading your take on our trip to Japan. It's interesting to read what we have in common and where we differ in terms of our experiences here!

I tried C.C. Lemon Zero the other day for the first time and it`s really good too!! I can only taste a small difference. It is not as sugary but is still pretty sweet. It still has the good C.C. Lemon taste I love!
Would you explain what is the C.C.Lemon taste you love? Since writing this post, I have moved on to a lot of other lemonade drinks and I've found them to be pretty good, too. Of course, I'm not pretty big on tasting; it takes me ten years to realize the difference between Pepsi and Coca Cola. So I can't really say how different they taste, unless I drink them all at the same time.
About the Zero, yes, it's pretty good. Not as sugary is always good, isn't it? I'd prefer the zero than the original one.
Isamu just told me about these commercials and I thought I should contribute them to this discussion.
